The Sensex closed at 17053, down 309 points from its previous close, and the Nifty shut shop at 5184, down 94 points. The CNX Midcap index closed with 1.6% loss while the BSE Smallcap index was down 1.4% in today's trade. The market breadth was negative with advances at 326 against declines of 1135 on the NSE. The top Nifty gainers were JP Associates, Kotak Mahindra Bank, ITC and Dr Reddy's while the biggest losers included IDFC,Sesa Goa, Axis Bank and Tata Power.
