A massive 8.9 magnitude quake hit north east Japan Friday, causing many injuries, fires and a four-meter (13-ft) tsunami along parts of the country's coastline.A large fire erupted at the Cosmo oil refinery in Ichihara city in Chiba prefecture near Tokyo and was burning out of control.
The Indian markets have fallen after a powerful earthquake hit Japan. At 12.45 pm, the Sensex was trading 248 points lower at 18,079 and the Nifty declined 76 points to 5,417.
JAPAN :-
The yen extended losses against the US dollar.The yen dropped to as low as around 83.29 yen to the US dollar compared to about 82.80 yen before the quake struck. The dollar last stood at 83.14 yen, up 0.2 per cent on the day.
SINGAPORE :-
Nikkei futures on Singapore were last down 2.8 per cent at 10,075.
HONGKONG :-
Hong Kong stocks slipped 1.8 per cent in early afternoon trade. Brokers said panic selling pulled down the market before bargain hunters emerged, helping the benchmark index trim losses slightly to 1.5 per cent.
DOW JONES :-Dow futures were recently trading 64 points lower at 11,856, pointing to further losses at the start of trade on Wall Street later today.

The 30-share BSE Sensex was trading at 18,112, down 216 points.About 1079 shares advanced as against 1488 shares declined on the Bombay Stock Exchange.The benchmark Sensex shed more than 200 points.
NSE :-
The 50-share NSE Nifty slipped below 5450 level at 12:30 hours, dragged down by technology, metal, auto, realty, telecom, infrastructure and financial stocks. Reliance Industries too was down.
